Squishy, curled up babies are the cutest!

In my opinion, the best age to photograph newborns is a week old or younger. Maybe 10 days old, at the max. The reasons are 1) they are extra sleepy, with very few wakeful periods, and 2) they are still most comfortable curled up. Generally around 1-2 weeks old, babies begin to stretch out and especially like to straighten their legs. Once they start doing that, it is very difficult to coax them into the popular newborn poses.

I photographed Isa when she was 6 days old…and she was perfectly squishy! She  squirmed her little feet up around her face when I positioning her on her belly. This is one of my favorite shots – her tiny toes up by her mouth just kill me. 🙂


I like the pink blanket in the pic above, but I really like this in black and white as well:
